I will never forget the day my dog Bailey first saw the Pacific Ocean. We had just bought a new car - an SUV - because traveling with Bailey had become a priority. Our beloved traveling companion stacked up blankets and pillows so that when we began our drive south from San Francisco, Bailey would be able to sit and have a view. When we turned onto the Pacific Coast Highway on that beautiful, clear winter day, we watched Bailey's eyes widen as he looked out at the ocean. It was at that moment we knew that he enjoyed traveling as much as we did. Since then, we have spent every free moment putting together trips and adventures to share with him.

Our traveling tails began when I received Bailey as a gift while visiting family in New Jersey. He was only eight weeks old. We bonded instantly, and two days later I flew him home to California. Bailey has since then traveled from Arizona, through Nevada and all over California. We have taken him on boat rides, trains, to the beach, playing in the snow, hiking in the mountains, camping and more! In all of our stops, we would run into others who had their dogs with them and were hungry for more detailed information about pet-friendly travel and not just listings. As anyone who travels with his pet will tell you, "pet-friendly" is a subjective term. Sadly, we ran into many people who did not even think that taking their dogs traveling with them is an option. They were excited and interested in whatever information we had to share with them. It was at this moment when we realized that Bailey has a mission. He knew how to travel and he wanted to spread the word!

It was from these trips that we decided there should be more information for people like us who travel with our dogs. We hated instances when he had to sit in the car or in a hotel room alone if we wanted to go for dinner. There were activities we wanted to do but we could not include Bailey, but we felt there were not any alternatives that would make us feel he was safe and taken care of, let alone where he would enjoy himself. Sometimes we would find great things to do with him, but they would be discovered as we were leaving town, or on our last day.

Bailey Knows Travel was born as a way to continue to carve out options and alternatives for folks like us, who want to have travel experiences with their dogs. We know first-hand how important it is to identify ahead of time not only what you can do with your dogs on your trip, but also where the local vet or all-night emergency clinic is located. We have found that there is more to planning a trip than just knowing which hotel will allow your dog. We want places that are excited to have your dog and provide things that take care of you and your best friend.

Books and Web sites are great resources of information, but every single recommendation still needs to be confirmed. And, because we travel so much with Bailey, we have learned how important it is to know where to take our dog if a bee stings him while we're hiking. We take the information you need to know one step further than most travel-related Web sites.

The one-of-a-kind group travel trips that we offer features onsite doggy daycare facilities, which means that you can drop off Fido for a few hours or the entire day and know that he is being played with and cared for, not left alone. Our organized trips also provide unique experiences that include both you and your pup! Our trip to Santa Barbara includes a visit to the Santa Barbara Mission where the Franciscan Monks bless the dogs, a hike and a picnic on the beach - all designed for both you and your dog's pleasure. With each trip, our goal is to include an event that allows the local community to participate, and all of our profits from the event go to a local charity. Our Santa Barbara trip, for instance, includes a Sunset Dog Gala by the beach that we will be hosting with All for Animals (www.allforanimals.com).

Traveling with your dog is a wonderful experience and with so many options becoming available, the services of Bailey Knows Travel continues to grow. We are hoping that someday, dogs will be welcomed in more hotels and patio restaurants and that traveling with your pups will become easier than trying to find someone to take care of them!
